Mark Richardson and Amanda Gillies have been announced as Duncan Garner's co-hosts for MediaWorks' new 6-9am weekday news programme, The AM Show.

Which sadly means that Mark (Rigor) will no longer be on The Morning Sound with Nik and Leah.

The show will launch early in 2017, replacing Paul Henry, which finished on December 16. Mark Richardson, of TV3's The Block New Zealand and The Morning Sound fame, will join the show as sports presenter, while Amanda Gillies - one of New Zealand's most experienced news reporters - will be the newsreader.

The AM Show will retain some attributes of the Paul Henry programme, but with a number of changes and additions.

The show's executive producer Sarah Bristow, the EP behind the success of Paul Henry, says she is thrilled to bring the trio together.

"Duncan and Amanda's natural chemistry has been evident this year and they go way back as friends and colleagues. Her news nous and naturally amazing personality make Amanda the perfect addition to The AM Show," says Bristow.

"Mark completes the studio team. His sporting knowledge, popularity with New Zealanders and quick-fire comments are sure to keep everyone on their toes. Our audience can certainly look forward to some good laughs along the way."

Garner says he's rapt with the team. "I couldn't be happier with Mark and Amanda joining me - they're smart, know their subjects and aren't afraid to have a good time in the process," he says.

Mark will continue to host The Block NZ and The Morning Sound will return next year with Leah Panapa and Nik Brown.
