The director and writer of 'Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol. 2', James Gunn wanted David Bowie to star in the film.
Gunn told fans during the days after Bowie's death in January 2016 that casting him in a cameo was talked about by Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige and Bowie was amenable to the idea.
They were only in the early stages of planning when Bowie sadly died.
During a Facebook Q & A with James Gunn the subject came up about Bowie's intended role in the film.
“I did talk to David Bowie’s people about him having a cameo,” he told viewers. “It would have been as one of the Ravagers, along with Michelle Yeoh and Ving Rhames and Sylvester Stallone and Michael Rosenbaum. But, unfortunately, David Bowie passed away.”
