Elton John announces retirement

Elton John has announced he will be retiring from touring after a final world tour.

In a New York press conference on Wednesday John announced that he will retire after a lengthy farewell tour, extending over the next couple of years.

"I'm not going to be touring anymore," he told moderator Anderson Cooper at New York's Gotham Hall.

"I'm not going to be touring and traveling the world. My priorities have changed. I have young children."

He will spend three years touring for his final 300-date tour he's dubbed Farewell Yellow Brick Road.

"That doesn't mean I won't still be creative," he said. "But I won't travel any more...I don't want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang...It'll be the most produced, fantastic show I've ever done."

'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' Global Tour starts in U.S. on September 8 2018, reaching Europe in April 2019, Asia in November 2019, Australia and New Zealand from December 2019 to February 2020.

Further information and ticketing details to come in the next couple of months.
