Rejoice! For some of us who are not living in North America who can't get tickets to see Bruce Springsteen's famed Tony Award-winning Broadway show, we're in for a treat!
Springsteen on Broadway will debut on Netflix on 15th December, sharing the same day the Broadway show finishes its tour at the Walter Kerr Theater, NYC.
Directed and co-produced by longtime Springsteen associate, Thom Zimmy, The New York Times reports that two special performances for private audiences recorded earlier this week will be used for the Netflix film.
We are thrilled to bring Bruce Springsteen -- a master storyteller, humanitarian and voice of the everyman -- to Netflix in this historic one-man show.
- Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer
Sarandos commented that the show is meant to bring Springsteen's intimate show to his entire global audience simultaneously. "This groundbreaking experience defies the boundaries of theatre, concerts and film," he says.
Springsteen on Broadway launched on 12th October 2017, is based on the musician's memoir Born to Run. On the show, Springsteen narrates his life via words and music only on his guitar, piano and occasional duet appearances with his wife, Patti Scialfa. The famous show had been extended three times with a total of 236 sold-out performances.
