At MTV's 2018 Video Music Awards (Aug 20) last night, Aerosmith closed the show with a two-song set with rapper Post Malone. You can watch the full performance above (Aerosmith comes in at around 2.20).
Post Malone opened the performance with his hit track "Rockstar" which won the "Song of the Year" category. Later, a stage extension descends from the ceiling. He introduces Aerosmith with "Ladies and gentlemen, f*****g Aerosmith!" before grabbing his guitar and joining in to perform "Dream On" and "Toys in the Attic".
There were many questions raised prior to VMAs as to why Aerosmith is closing the show as the majority of the audience are teenagers. The performance has been receiving many mixed reviews. UCR says the performers "can be seen with doubtful or at least thoughtful expressions at times, and Tyler appears to physically direct Joe Perry and Malone on occasions". Vox describes the show as "complete with pre-punched holes in the fake Marshall speakers onstage, served as a strange cherry on top of the cake".
On the other hand, the internet is loving the mighty combo between Aerosmith and Post Malone. See what people say below.
