Former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts in critical condition after an accident

music news 20/09/2018

Guitarist Dickey Betts is currently in critical condition after an unfortunate accident at his Florida home.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that Betts was playing with his dog in his home backyard when the accident occurred on Monday. He "slipped and cracked his head"  which caused a haemorrhage in the brain. Betts has been sedated and recovering in a local hospital with his wife, Donna and their children by his bedside.

Betts is due for a brain surgery this Friday to stop the swelling. His longtime friend and manager, David Spero, said the guitarist is in critical but stable condition.

Not too long ago, the Allman Brothers co-founder cancelled an upcoming tour due to a mild stroke and was diagnosed with "post-stroke repercussions". Stated on his website, “Doctors have assured Betts that after three to five weeks he will be 100 percent recovered and can resume his touring schedule”.

Betts' upcoming shows were scheduled for 1st Nov but may probably be postponed due to the recent accident.

Spero noted that Betts was telling him "how excited he was to get back in front of the fans on November 1" and it is very unfortunate that the shows may have to be cancelled.

“The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time,” Donna said. “We are by his side giving him the strength to pull through this.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Betts. We hope he recovers well after his surgery.
