The director of Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, Dexter Fletcher, has revealed that Rami Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury almost appeared in the Elton John biopic.

"There was an idea I had at one point, where Elton’s in a restaurant with his mother. I thought John Reid and Freddie could be at another table and they wave at each other," Flectcher said.

John Reid managed Elton for more than 30 years, with a three year overlap in the 1970s when he also managed Queen. Reid is played by two different actors in the films though, with Aidan Gillen portraying him in Bohemian Rhapsody and Richard Madden in Rocketman.

Although he thinks the moment would have been "amazing" in the movie, he scrapped the idea, confessing that he was "not looking to set out to make a cinematic universe."

Fletcher only took over the director reins of 'Rhapsody' towards the end of production, after Bryan Singer was fired. He then went on to work on 'Rocketman', working on two of the most talked about biopics in recent years.
