Last month, we sent two Sound winners, Frank and Angela Dowle, to Los Angeles, to watch The Who perform live at the iconic Hollywood Bowl venue.
The Who was on their 'Moving On!' orchestral tour and the pair attended the gig on the 13th October.
Recently, we got an email back from the Dowles, telling us how their trip went! "I just wanted to thank you and the rest of the team at The Sound for the fantastic trip that Angela and I had to see The Who live at the Hollywood Bowl," Frank wrote.
"The Who show was fantastic," he said, and attached a couple of photos that the pair took at the Who concert (see below).
"They played with a full orchestra and performed about 45 minutes of Tommy followed by a set with just the band on stage (including an acoustic version of Won't Get Gooled Again and Behind Blue Eyes accompanied by violin and cello," he reviewed. You can see the full setlist of the show at the bottom of the page.
The band wrapped up their set with Baba O'Riley which Frank thought was "the best live performance of anything" that he has ever seen. "The power of The Who accompanied by an orchestra was amazing," he describes.
The Dowles had also visited the Sunset Sound Studio and caught an NFL game between San Francisco's 49s and L.A. Rams at the Los Angeles Coliseum, which is really cool!
We're so envious of the Dowles as they stumbled upon Keith Moon's Malibu home that was built side-by-side to Steve McQueen's beach house while taking a walk along the beach. "If only we could have travelled back 43 years to witness some of the chaos than went on during Keith's time there," Frank says.
Staying at The Dream Hollywood Hotel, the pair describes their time there exceptional. "It is in the heart of Hollywood, and it is a very hip and cool hotel." "The hotel is frequented by young and beautiful people, so at times we felt like the elderly relatives sitting in the corner, but it was a great experience."
We're so happy that the Dowles enjoyed their Los Angeles trip and they lived it to the fullest! That's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you, right there.
