Elton John's two upcoming Auckland shows have been postponed by two years.
The 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' singer was scheduled to perform at Mt Smart Stadium in January next year, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means Kiwi fans won't be singing 'The Bitch is Back' until January 2023.
"I've been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic," Elton said. "But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.
"While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone."
He also rescheduled his North American tour to 2022, and Europe until late 2021. But will the 73-year-old 'Rocketman' still be standing in 2023?
"Don't worry about me. I'm using my downtime to keep myself fighting fit and healthier than ever," Elton said. "I'm raring to go! As always, thank you so much for your loyal support.
"I look forward to seeing all you wonderful Elton John fans soon. In the meantime, please stay safe and be well. Thank you!"
Elton last came to New Zealand in January and February this year, just weeks before the virus made its way here. He fell ill during a show at Mt Smart, cutting it short.
Fans were denied a refund by Chugg Entertainment, but one dogged concertgoer eventually got a few hundred dollars back after going to the Disputes Tribunal. Others eventually got some of their money back after signing confidentiality agreements with the promoter.
Promoter Michael Chugg said Elton was "extremely disappointed" about having to reschedule the show he didn't complete the first time around.
"Unfortunately, as everyone can see with what's happening with global touring at the moment, there isn't a way around it. Rest assured, he'll be absolutely thrilled to perform for New Zealand audiences one last time, when he does finally make it back in 2023."
