WATCH: Deep Purple's Jazz rendition of 'Smoke On The Water'

Who knew Smoke on the Water would work so well as a Jazz song1

Today we look at the time Deep Purple gave a face-lift to one of the world's most iconic four-note guitar riffs. 

While in France, the band was set to perform on live television but instead of playing 'Smoke on the Water' the way we all know it, they gave it a jazz cover.

With some fans joking in the comments that 'they probably requested that they play really quiet' the cover works perfectly with other fans writing 'The versatility of Ian Gillan can once again be heard most clearly, he is also at home in jazz.'

"Woohoo!! These guys can play anything! LOOOOVE Deep Purple!" wrote another.

The band had previously played a taster of the Jazz 'Smoke on the Water' for the 40th Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006:
