47 years ago, The Doobie Brothers scored their first of two Number one charting singles.
In 1974, The Doobie Brothers released their fourth studio album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits, featuring the now iconic song 'Black Water'.
At the time, nobody had any thought about making 'Black Water' a single. Originally, 'Another Park, Another Sunday' was the lead single from the album, only managing to climb to #33 in the charts.
But after a radio station in Virginia began playing the b-side track 'Black Water', it began spreading across the United States.
A year later, the song had managed to climb to #1 in the charts, one of only two for the band with the second coming five years later with 'What a Fool Believes'.
In 2020, The Doobie Brothers were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame with singer Michael McDonald saying "Being a Doobie Brother represents some of the best years of my life."
